Wexford Councillors Call for Ireland to Follow UK Crackdown on Vape Shops and Nail Bars

There are calls for Ireland to consider introducing similar measures to a crackdown on certain high-street businesses being pursued in Britain.

The UK Government under Prime Minister Andy Burnham is giving councils stronger powers to control businesses including vape shops, while rogue vape stores, nail bars and other premises suspected of links to organised crime can face tougher enforcement and longer closure orders.

Calls are now being made for similar measures to be examined here in Ireland, including whether local authorities should have greater powers over the proliferation and operation of such businesses

Independent New Ross Councillor Michael Sheehan said these businesses bring a lot of risks with them

Independent Wexford Councillor Leonard Kelly said it would be great to see the same thing happen here so local authorities can take back some of their power
