Wexford County Council has backed a motion calling on the Government to reimburse families who are forced to pay privately for ADHD assessments and CAMHS services due to long public waiting lists.
The motion, proposed by Councillor Raymond Shannon at this week's full council meeting, calls for parents to be reimbursed if they have to pay for a private ADHD assessment for their child. It also seeks reimbursement for people waiting more than three months for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) who access private care because of delays.
Councillor Shannon said families should not be left out of pocket when they are unable to access timely assessments or mental health services through the public system.
The motion was passed by members of Wexford County Council and will now be forwarded to the Government for consideration.
