A young couple from Wexford and Kilkenny are swapping city life for the remote beauty of the Great Blasket Island off the coast of County Kerry.
Conor Jones, originally from Glynn in Wexford & Aisling Costello, from Kilkenny, have been selected as the island's new caretakers despite having never even set foot there before.
They’ll be managing the island’s coffee shop and holiday cottages from April 1st until September, living without hot water, full-time mobile coverage, or WiFi, relying on a small wind-powered turbine for electricity.
Conor, who has family connections to old-house restoration, and Aisling, whose grandfather was a photographer on Inis Meáin, say they’re looking forward to a simpler life away from the hustle and bustle.
