Wexford Festival Opera Opens Tonight with Global Appeal and A Stunning Lineup

Tonight marks the 74th Wexford Festival Opera’s grand opening & is set to draw  a global audience from over 20 countries. The festival kicks off with a rare French reworking of Verdi's Le Trouvére —followed by Handel’s Deidamia and Delius’s The Magic Fountain, showcasing the festival’s tradition of rare and lesser-known operatic works. Speaking earlier on Morning Mix Paul Cleary, Chairman of Wexford Festival Opera, highlighted the festival’s global reach and praised Artistic Director Rosetta Cucchi who celebrates her 30th year with Wexford. “Her vision and dedication have been pivotal in shaping the festival,” Cleary said, noting the festival’s theme Myths and Legends aligns with the season's offerings. He also emphasized the success of The Factory, a training program for emerging operatic talent which has expanded to include stage management and répétiteur training. The evening’s fireworks display, set to classical music including Carmina Burana and The Valkyrie, will add an extra layer of excitement. Pyrotechnic expert Casey Whelan urged attendees to prioritise safety and keep pets indoors during the display. With over 75 events planned, including operas, recitals and more Wexford Festival Opera continues to be a key highlight on Ireland's cultural calendar. “Wexford is the place to be this season, with something for everyone,”
