Wexford Library and Archive Service Publishes Oral History Collections to the Digital Repository of Ireland

Wexford Library and Archive Service has uploaded four significant collections of oral recordings to the Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI), making them freely accessible to the public. These include the County Wexford Oral History Project, Memories of 1916, Memories of World War I and the Southend Maritime Heritage Oral History Project. These recordings can now be listened to or downloaded from any remote location offering a valuable resource for researchers, family historians and anyone interested in the rich cultural heritage of County Wexford. In early 2025, Wexford Library and Archive Service became a member of the Digital Repository of Ireland, a certified digital platform dedicated to the long-term preservation and public access to Ireland’s social and cultural data. Funded by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science (DFHERIS), DRI serves as a trusted archive for various local authority archives across the country ensuring that valuable historical records are preserved for future generations. Cathaoirleach of Wexford County Council, Joe Sullivan, commented, “I’m delighted that Wexford Library and Archive Service are making this resource available to the public. The recordings show how different life in Wexford was for our previous generations. I’m confident they will be a rich asset to researchers and family members.” Wexford Library Service continues to collect oral history recordings and plans to upload additional resources to the Digital Repository of Ireland in the future, expanding access to local history and culture.
