Wexford Light Opera Society is preparing to celebrate a major milestone this October as its hugely popular Hits from the Musicals returns for its 30th anniversary.
The annual cabaret-style production will run for four nights, from Monday October 26th to Thursday October 29th at Whites of Wexford as part of the Wexford Festival Opera Fringe.
Performances begin nightly at 8pm with doors opening at 7.30pm.
This year’s anniversary production will feature a carefully selected programme of Broadway and West End favourites, alongside contemporary musical theatre showstoppers.
The songs will be performed by the award-winning Wexford Light Opera Society chorus, together with some of the society’s best-known performers, in an evening celebrating three decades of musical theatre in Wexford.
Musical direction is by David Hayes, with stage direction by Stephen Byrne and choral direction by Eithne Corrigan.
Catherine “Biddy” Walsh will once again host the evening bringing the humour and warmth that have become a familiar part of the annual production.
Now in its 30th year, Hits from the Musicals has become a firm fixture of the Wexford Festival Opera period attracting musical theatre fans to a mix of familiar favourites, big ensemble numbers and individual performances.
Tickets are currently on sale through the National Opera House.
Meanwhile, Wexford Light Opera Society has also revealed its main stage production for 2027.
The society will take on Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s acclaimed musical Evita.
The show tells the story of Eva Perón’s journey from humble beginnings to becoming one of Argentina’s most powerful and influential figures.
Featuring some of musical theatre’s most recognisable songs, including Don’t Cry for Me Argentina and Another Suitcase in Another Hall, the production is expected to be one of the society’s most ambitious undertakings in recent years.
