Wexford project features in winning national EU photography competition

A Wexford public realm project has taken centre stage in the winning image of a national photography competition highlighting the impact of European Union funding across Ireland.

The Crescent Quay Public Realm Project in Wexford Town is featured in "Vigilant Commodore", a photograph by Ruth Tapial, which won first place in Category One of the Our Ireland, Our EU photography competition.

The competition, organised by the Department of Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation, invited people to capture projects co-funded by the European Union and the Government of Ireland.

The winning image was announced at an awards ceremony in Government Buildings on Thursday, attended by Minister Jack Chambers. Wexford County Council was represented by Lar Lett, who worked on the Crescent Quay project.

More than 80 photographs were entered in the competition, attracting over 13,000 visitors to the competition website and more than 3,500 public votes. The competition showcased projects that have benefited communities through EU and Government investment in areas including public spaces, education, skills and social inclusion.
