The Wexford Rape Crisis Centre has officially launched its second annual Midsummer Ladies Lunch, a major fundraising event scheduled for June 7, 2026, at Newbay House. After the incredible success of last year’s event, which exceeded its €10,000 target by raising €17,000, the Centre is looking to build on this momentum to support its crucial services.
At the launch, Fiona Gainfort, Chairperson of the Fundraising Committee, thanked the community for its generosity, stressing that while last year's fundraising was a tremendous success, there is still much work to be done. "What we raised last year is just a small part of what is needed to ensure our services remain available to those who need them most," she said. This year, the Centre is introducing a new initiative to directly fund counselling hours, which will help reduce waiting lists and provide timely support for survivors of domestic, sexual, and gender-based violence.
Clare Williams, CEO of the Wexford Rape Crisis Centre, highlighted the growing demand for services, noting that the Centre now supports approximately 400 active clients, with ongoing waiting lists. "No survivor should have to wait for support," she stated. The fundraising efforts have been pivotal in expanding the Centre’s services, including the upcoming introduction of adolescent counselling in New Ross.
The launch also recognized the generosity of local businesses and individuals who have pledged support. “We are incredibly grateful to the local businesses who have stepped forward this year, despite the challenges they face,” said Fiona. Sponsors such as The Crown Bar, Newtown Park Hotel, Butler Motors, Keane Auctioneers, and many others were acknowledged for their contributions.
The event promises to be a memorable day, with a Prosecco reception, a four-course lunch, and a fashion showcase from boutiques across Wexford, representing each of the towns where the Centre operates. The event will be held at the stunning Newbay House, beautifully curated by Banqueting Manager Maria Power and her team.
Fiona also expressed her gratitude to the committee members for their dedication, calling them an extraordinary group of women. "Volunteers do not necessarily have the time, they just have the heart," she said, quoting an inspirational thought to describe the committee’s unwavering commitment.
The 2026 Midsummer Ladies Lunch is set to be a wonderful event in support of a cause that is more critical than ever. For more information or press queries, contact Fiona Gainfort, Chairperson of the Midsummer Ladies Lunch Committee.
