A group of post-primary schools from County Wexford have been awarded the prestigious Digital Schools Award Europe , marking a significant achievement in their commitment to digital excellence in education. Coláiste Abbáin in Adamstown, Bridgetown College, Bunclody Community College, Kennedy College in New Ross and St Paul’s Community College in Waterford have all been recognized for their collaborative efforts to enhance digital learning and teaching. The award, which was granted by the Digital Schools Award Europe programme, recognises schools that demonstrate a comprehensive digital strategy, integrate technology effectively in the classroom and prioritise ongoing professional development for teachers. These Wexford schools, as part of the Waterford and Wexford Education and Training Board (WWETB), formed a collaborative cluster to share best practices and work together to improve their digital education offerings. Eimear Ryan, Director of Schools for WWETB, expressed her pride in the achievement, stating: “We are thrilled to celebrate the shared success of the WWETB schools in achieving the Digital Schools Award. This recognition reflects the outstanding teamwork, innovation, and commitment to delivering high-quality digital education. The award recognises not only individual school efforts but also the powerful impact of their collaborative approach in preparing students with essential digital skills for the future.” The Digital Schools Award programme is supported by HP, AMD, and several government partners, and is designed to provide a robust framework for schools to assess and enhance their digital education practices. Schools that participate in the programme gain access to a variety of resources, assessment tools and a development roadmap through the European Commission's SELFIE survey, ensuring that the pursuit of excellence in digital education continues in the long term. Kennedy College Principal Sarah Roche, whose school was part of the award-winning group, noted: “Achieving this award reflects the dedication of our entire school community to innovative learning. The recognition motivates us to further develop digital opportunities for students and to keep evolving our approach to education.” With 357 Irish schools now involved in the Digital Schools Award Europe programme, these Wexford schools are among the first to be recognised for their commitment to digital teaching. Schools can participate in the programme for free by visiting www.digitalschoolsawards.eu to assess and improve their digital education practices.
