Wexford Seeks Creative Ideas To Bring Town To Life This Christmas

Creative individuals, community organisations and event organisers are being invited to help shape Christmas in Wexford this year.

Mayor of Wexford Councillor Vicky Barron says Wexford County Council wants to hear proposals for events and activities which could attract people into the town throughout the festive period.

She said "nothing is off the table" as the local authority looks for new ideas.

The initiative is also being viewed as an important opportunity to support Wexford's small and medium-sized businesses during one of their most important trading periods of the year.

Mayor Barron said encouraging people into Wexford is about more than creating a festive atmosphere, with local businesses relying heavily on Christmas trade to support employment and meet their operating costs.

She is encouraging people to shop locally throughout the coming weeks, including purchasing vouchers from Wexford businesses in advance of Christmas.

The Mayor said Wexford already has a strong tradition of creativity and community involvement and she hopes that will be reflected in the proposals submitted.

Individuals do not have to represent an established organisation to take part, with anyone capable of developing or organising an idea being encouraged to put it forward.

Mayor Barron said she wants the festive period to encourage people to spend time in Wexford town, explore local shops, galleries and businesses and support the local economy.
