A Wexford Senator has welcomed new legislation aimed at modernising Garda powers. The Garda Síochána Powers Bill 2025 will consolidate existing powers of search, seizure and detention into a single, more accessible law.It also introduces new rules around the seizure and forensic examination of electronic devices, including tailored digital search warrants.The bill received Government approval in late 2025, with publication expected to proceed through the legislative process in early 2026 Speaking on Morning Mix, Senator Cathal Byrne said the Bill will provide greater legal clarity for Gardaí while strengthening oversight and safeguards.
