Deputy George Lawlor has called on the European Union to act decisively in response to President Donald Trump’s latest tariff announcements. Speaking on the issue of Greenland-related tariffs, Lawlor warned that the U.S. president’s unpredictable actions threaten the stability of international trade. “The EU is one of the largest trading blocks on the planet and it simply has to stand up to this narcissistic bully,” Deputy Lawlor said. He added that repeated threats from Trump undermine confidence in trade agreements and make it difficult for businesses across Europe to plan with certainty. Lawlor criticized the U.S. leader for a lack of “decency, integrity and commitment to keeping deals,” stressing that the EU can no longer afford to remain passive. “Sitting idly by while threats continue is no longer an option,” he said. The deputy’s comments come amid growing concerns about potential economic impacts from tariffs and trade disputes.
