In a significant update for homeowners, Wexford is set to be included in the Government's relief scheme for those affected by defective concrete blocks, including those contaminated by mica and pyrite, which cause walls to crack and crumble.
Housing Minister James Browne is expected to bring a memo to the Cabinet today, seeking to apply the "defective concrete blocks" designation to both Wexford and Fingal. This will expand the compensation scheme, which was initially focused on four counties: Clare, Donegal, Limerick, and Mayo.
In Wexford, two homes in Bunclody and Ferns are currently impacted, with an estimated cost of adding the county to the scheme set between €10 and €15 million.
The scheme is part of a broader effort to address issues caused by defective building materials, with over 9,500 homes nationwide affected.
