Wexford Town Officials Call For New Ideas To Freshen Up Christmas

You can now have your say on how to improve the Christmas offerings in Wexford Town.

The Wexford Borough District is looking for creative people to submit ideas for how officials can freshen up the festive period here.

You can email your plans to wexfordborough@wexfordcoco.ie before 5pm next Friday the 9th of October.

Councillor Robbie Staples says they've already been contacted with some interesting suggestions:

"So far we've had a good response from the community with lots of encouraging ideas that have come into the email address.

"Although we do have a limited budget, the aim is to build on this year on year. We've seen the benefits of this with working with the Men's Shed where we had the introduction of presents up in the Faythe and in the Arts Centre last year."

The borough is is looking to hear from those with a background in event management, outdoor performance, family entertainment, creative programming and the animation of public spaces.

Submissions can be made online at the address above and Councillor Staples says he has a few ideas of his own that he'd like to see implemented:

"I would potentially like to see an enchanted Winter Garden put into Redmond Square so we have something down that end of the town.

"I'd love to see a new Christmas Tree put in the Bullring with festive lights extended out towards the North Main Street to encourage people to go down and remember there's retailers down that end as well."

The possibility of a Christmas market on the quays is back on the agenda for the festive period in Wexford Town.

The idea was floated by Councillor Leonard Kelly back in 2024 but has yet to come to fruition.

Fellow councillor Staples would also like to see it happen but says there are hurdles to get past first:

"There has been a few different obstacles that we've come across with the budget or the issues with meeting the safe standards of food etc.

"I've spoken directly with a food producer network who is interested I know the Borough Manager and our Director of Services have also had a very positive conversations with them as well."

That report was funded by the Local Democracy Reporting Scheme.
