Wexford’s Cian Martin Honoured as European Young Ambassador of the Year

Cian Martin, a student from Selskar College in Wexford, has been awarded the prestigious European Young Ambassador of the Year title at the Lions Europa Forum 2025, recognizing his outstanding contributions to inclusion and diversity. Cian’s project, which focuses on both cultural and neurodiversity, aims to create inclusive spaces where people, regardless of their backgrounds or abilities, feel welcomed and valued. His work includes supporting refugees integrating into Irish communities and advocating for people living with disabilities. The award, presented at the annual forum, came after Cian won both the local and national Lions Club Young Ambassador competitions. His success in these stages led to his entry into the European finals, where he competed against young leaders from across the continent. Speaking about the competition, Cian shared that meeting other finalists from countries like Germany, the Netherlands, and Italy was a humbling experience, seeing the impressive work being done in various communities. Cian’s victory has opened new opportunities for him to expand his work. He will now launch an eight-week bespoke mentorship program called the Youth Inclusion Mentor Programme, designed to train young people as inclusion mentors in schools across Wexford. The program aims to equip students with the skills to create more inclusive environments in schools, encouraging empathy, understanding and support for all students, particularly those from marginalized communities. “I’m grateful to Lions Clubs International for recognizing my work and giving me this platform to further my mission,” said Cian. “I hope this program will have a lasting impact and help make our schools more inclusive for everyone.” Cian’s award also highlights the ongoing commitment of Selskar College and Wexford Lions Club in fostering young leaders dedicated to social change and inclusion. As part of his prize, Cian has received support to develop this mentorship program, which will provide valuable leadership training for youth across the county.
