Wexford’s Communities Invited to Shape the Future of Historic Landfill Sites

County Wexford is set to embark on an exciting transformation of four historic landfill sites, turning them into vibrant public spaces in the years to come. These sites include Carcur near Wexford Town, Lucas Park near Enniscorthy, Ballykeerougue near Campile in the New Ross Municipal District and Gorteen near Inch in the Gorey Municipal District. As part of the Creative Ireland programme, Wexford County Council, in collaboration with the Environment Office, is seeking the input of local communities to shape the future of these sites. To gather feedback and ideas, cultural producer Karla Sanchez will lead a series of consultation workshops. These sessions will provide a platform for local residents to share their thoughts on what these spaces could become. With a focus on innovative consultation methods, the workshops aim to foster progressive thinking and allow communities to envision the potential of these historic sites. Cathaoirleach of Wexford County Council, Joe Sullivan, emphasized the importance of community involvement, stating, "It is very important that our communities have a say in how the landfill sites are shaped for future generations. These workshops are a fantastic way to share your opinions. I would encourage our local communities to come along and get involved." The consultation workshops will be held at the following dates and locations: - Carcur : Thursday, 9th October at 7:00 pm, Wexford Library - Lucas Park : Thursday, 16th October at 7:00 pm, Enniscorthy Library - Ballykeerougue : Friday, 7th November at 7:00 pm, Campile Community Hall - Gorteen : Saturday, 8th November at 4:00 pm, St. Mogues Community Centre For the library sessions, please book your place through the library bookings page, or for Ballykeerougue and Gorteen sessions, email elizabeth.howard@wexfordcoco.ie to secure your spot.
