Busy weekend for Fethard RNLI with three callouts in three days

Fethard RNLI crews were kept busy over the weekend, responding to three separate incidents in the space of just three days.

The first call came on Friday afternoon, when the crew were alerted to a person suffering a medical emergency on a vessel off Hook Head.The lifeboat made its way to Slade Harbour and stood by while members of the Coast Guard provided medical assistance and an ambulance was awaited.

On Saturday evening, the crew were called out again following reports that two people had been cut off by the tide on rocks north of Sandhill Bay.The lifeboat launched from Slade Harbour and made its way to the area, where the two people were located.Conditions were challenging, with poor visibility, fog, strong winds and a high tide. The crew successfully brought both people safely back aboard the lifeboat.

The third callout came on Sunday afternoon, when two divers were reported unaccounted for while diving in Slade.The lifeboat crew were preparing to launch when the Coast Guard confirmed that both divers had been found safe and well, and that no further assistance was required.

Speaking on Morning Mix, Fethard RNLI Press Officer Nadia Blanchfield highlighted the importance of checking tide times and conditions before heading out to sea.

She says the three incidents all had positive outcomes, but the weekend serves as a reminder of the importance of planning ahead and taking care near the coast.
