Minister for Housing, Local Government, and Heritage, James Browne TD, has announced a significant expansion of the CLÁR programme in County Wexford, following a dedicated push with the Department of Community and Rural Development. As a result of these efforts, 13 new areas in Wexford are now eligible for funding under the initiative, including Ferns, Clonroche, Taghmon, Duncormick, Rosslare Harbour, and Rosslare Strand.
This expansion is part of a national push to better support rural communities with vital infrastructure improvements. Minister Browne has worked tirelessly to ensure these additional Wexford locations gain access to the programme, which is designed to fund projects that enhance local amenities such as sports clubs, playgrounds, youth clubs, sensory gardens, and walking tracks. The funding can also be used for initiatives such as transportation for cancer patients, community first responders, and meals on wheels services.
“This is a significant win for the people of Wexford, and for all the communities now able to access the funding they need to enhance their quality of life. With the new additions, these areas will now benefit from crucial resources for local development,” said Minister Browne.
In addition to the expansion, Minister Browne has announced that the 2026 CLÁR programme is now open for applications. With an increased budget of €12 million, the programme aims to support a range of community projects across Wexford. Local groups are encouraged to apply for funding under the three available measures:
-
Measure 1 – Development of community amenities, such as sports facilities and walking tracks.
-
Measure 2 – Support for community transport, including services for cancer patients and people with reduced mobility.
-
Measure 3 – Tailored funding for offshore island communities.
For more information on the CLÁR programme and how to apply, community groups should contact their local authority or Minister Dara Calleary’s Department directly. A series of seminars will also be held to guide interested parties through the application process.
