Cllr. Jim Codd has expressed his outrage after learning that the DePaul homeless hostel in Wexford has vacant rooms and beds while people in need of shelter are being turned away. At a housing meeting yesterday, the Rosslare Councillor was informed that just the night before last (November 4th) seven homeless individuals sought shelter in the wet weather—six were given a bed, while one was turned away, despite empty rooms available. "We’re paying nearly one million euros a year for this service, and yet beds remain empty while vulnerable people are left out in the cold," Codd said. He warned that if the situation is not immediately addressed, he will demand the management of the hostel appear before the council.
