A father and his two daughters who helped save four members of a family from the sea at Curracloe Beach in County Wexford are being honoured for their bravery at a national awards ceremony today.
Ciaran O'Gara and his daughters Anna and Ruth are among 56 people being recognised at Water Safety Ireland's National Awards, following their courageous actions on December 28th last year.
The three were at Curracloe Beach when four members of a family got into difficulty in the water.
All three are members of a swimming group in Curracloe while Anna and Ruth have undergone lifeguard training.
Anna said her years of water safety training, which began when she was just ten years old, immediately kicked in.
She said the family was particularly honoured that one of those rescued, along with his wife, would be attending today's ceremony.
The O'Gara family will be recognised alongside dozens of other rescuers at Water Safety Ireland's National Awards Ceremony in Dublin today, Tuesday, October 13.
The awards celebrate extraordinary acts of courage by people who have helped save lives and prevent drownings across Ireland.
For the O'Gara family, what began as a visit to Curracloe Beach has become an unforgettable experience — and one that has now earned them national recognition for their bravery.
