Alcohol costs 175 percent more in Ireland than the EU average, while tobacco costs 189 percent of the average across the member states. New research from Eurostat says we are the most expensive country in the EU in which to buy alcohol and second most expensive for tobacco. But even when it comes to food and non-alcoholic drink, Ireland costs 119 percent more than other countries.
