Larry Murrin the Chair of Bord Bia has told an Oireachtas Agriculture Committee that he remains “fully committed” to his role despite calls for his resignation.
Murrin has faced strong criticism over his company, Dawn Farms, importing Brazilian beef, with the IFA arguing it creates a conflict of interest.
In a hearing yesterday Larry Murrin has defended the imports, stating they were part of a contingency plan, and emphasized that only 1% of beef came from Brazil.
He also rejected accusations of wrongdoing, but the IFA remains unhappy with his refusal to disclose specific tonnage details.
Speaking on MM the Deputy President of the IFA Wexford’s Alice Doyle said the IFA are prepared to have dialogue around the issue but they are not prepared to stand down
North Wexford TD Brian Brennan, while agreeing with the IFA’s stance, emphasized the need for dialogue and a resolution.
He said that the situation is harming Ireland’s meat industry on a global scale and stressed that both the government and IFA need to come together to address the issue.
However, Deputy Brennan did not directly call for Murrin’s resignation, stating that the focus should be on getting all parties into a room for discussions.
