€19 Million Water Upgrade Secures Enniscorthy’s Future Growth and Water Supply

A major €19 million investment in Enniscorthy’s water infrastructure has been officially completed, delivering a more reliable and resilient water supply for homes and businesses across the town and surrounding areas.

The project, carried out by Uisce Éireann, was marked by Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage James Browne, who said the upgrade will support both existing communities and future development in the area.

The Enniscorthy Regional Water Supply Scheme includes the construction of a new raw water intake and pumping station at Clonhaston, as well as two kilometres of new interconnecting water mains linking the River Slaney to the upgraded Vinegar Hill Water Treatment Plant.

Minister Browne said the investment is vital for the town’s continued growth, noting that housing and economic development depend on strong and reliable water services. He also confirmed that a further phase of water infrastructure improvements is due to begin in early July, involving the expansion of the pipeline carrying treated water into the town.

Uisce Éireann says the upgraded scheme has been designed with climate resilience in mind and will provide additional capacity to meet the needs of a growing population while ensuring a secure and sustainable water supply for years to come.

Portfolio Manager Diane Carroll described the project as a significant milestone for Enniscorthy, saying it strengthens the town’s water network and supports future residential and commercial development.

Cathaoirleach of Wexford County Council, Councillor Joe Sullivan, welcomed the completion of the works, describing the scheme as a critical piece of infrastructure that will serve the community for generations while protecting the River Slaney and supporting sustainable growth.

The project is one of the largest recent investments in water infrastructure in County Wexford and is expected to provide long-term benefits for the region.
