Eir To Switch Off 3G Network In County Wexford From Next Wednesday

Eir customers across County Wexford are being advised to check their mobile phones ahead of the company's planned 3G network switch-off, which begins next Wednesday October 28th.

The telecommunications company is retiring its older 3G network nationwide as it continues to develop and improve its 4G and 5G services.

Wexford is among the counties included in the next phase of the rollout, with the nationwide switch-off expected to be completed over the coming weeks.

Eir says the vast majority of customers will not be affected as they are already using newer mobile technology.

However, a small number of customers who still rely on 3G-only services may need to update their phone settings replace their SIM card or upgrade to a compatible device to continue accessing mobile data.

The company says all customers affected have been contacted directly with guidance on what action they need to take.

Eir has reassured customers that normal calls and text messages will continue to work following the 3G switch-off.

The main change will affect mobile internet access for customers still relying on older 3G technology.

Eir has also introduced dedicated support for customers aged 65 and over through its Age Friendly Care service.

Older customers who have been identified as needing a replacement SIM card to access 4G or 5G services will automatically receive one in the post.

They can also contact the dedicated support team on 1800 252 252 Monday to Friday between 10am and 4pm.

Anyone concerned about whether their phone will be affected can visit eir.ie/3Gswitchoff or call into an eir store for assistance.

The switch-off in County Wexford is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, October 28th, rather than taking place across the entire county at once.
