New figures show strong growth in car sales across County Wexford, with vehicle registrations rising by 7.7 percent in the first four months of the year.
However, it is electric vehicles that are driving the most significant increase, with EV sales in the county surging by more than 70 percent compared to the same period last year. This growth is well ahead of the overall market trend and reflects a continued shift in consumer preferences towards cleaner transport options.
Wexford now accounts for nearly 3 percent of all electric vehicle sales nationwide, underlining the county’s growing role in Ireland’s transition to low-emission transport.
Speaking on Morning Mix, Tom Cullen from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) said the figures point to a strong and ongoing move towards electrification. He described EV performance in Wexford as “very, very strong,” highlighting the pace of change in the local market.
Industry observers say the latest data suggests momentum in the electric vehicle sector is continuing to build, with infrastructure and affordability remaining key factors influencing future growth.
