Fethard RNLI is calling on people across South Wexford to consider becoming volunteers as part of a recruitment drive aimed at strengthening its lifesaving and fundraising teams.
The lifeboat station will host an open recruitment evening on Friday, June 5th, at 7pm, giving members of the public an opportunity to learn more about the wide range of volunteer roles available.
The event will begin with a lifeboat launch demonstration at Fethard Dock, followed by an opportunity to meet existing volunteers and ask questions at Fethard Lifeboat Station.
The station operates a D-class inshore lifeboat from several launch locations around the Hook Peninsula and is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year after reopening in 1996.
Fethard RNLI is currently seeking both lifeboat crew and shore crew volunteers. Crew members respond to emergency callouts, undertake regular training and exercises, and help maintain the station, lifeboat and equipment. Shore crew assist with launches and recoveries and operate the station's launch vehicle and trailer.
The charity is also looking for fundraising volunteers to help organise local events, support community initiatives and raise awareness of the RNLI's work.
Volunteer Helm Eoin Bird said volunteers are essential to the organisation's ability to save lives at sea.
He said joining the RNLI offers people the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in their community while becoming part of a dedicated and supportive team.
All operational volunteers receive training through the RNLI's national competency-based training programme.
Anyone interested in finding out more about volunteering with Fethard RNLI is encouraged to attend the open evening or contact the station through its social media channels.
