Former county wexford mortgage broker given suspended sentence
Noel Ryan - a former mortgage broker from County Wexford - has been handed down an 18-month suspended sentence. It comes after he helped former County Wicklow solicitor Mary Miley to submit fraudulent loan documentation. She was today jailed for 3 years. 56 year-old Mary Miley of Duncairn Avenue in Bray in County Wicklow fraudulently borrowed nearly one million euro in mortgage bridging loans. The mother of two along with Noel Ryan of Ballinapierce, Enniscorthy in Co Wexford took out loans using false documents to develop property but all the money is now gone. Both pleaded guilty to charges under the Theft and Fraud Act between January 2006 and February 2008. Mary Miley claimed she was suffering from battered housewife syndrome at the time of the offences which took place between 2006 and 2008. She was today jailed for 3 years while 67 year old Noel Ryan received an 18 month suspended sentence for aiding and abetting her. He earned over €11,000 commission on two of the loans, but has agreed to pay it all back.
