Fresh Start for Wexford Town Centre Church

A special service will be held on Wednesday evening (15 April) to mark the reopening of Wexford’s former Presbyterian church, located on Anne Street. Built in 1840, the church served as the county’s only Presbyterian congregation for over 180 years before its closure in 2023. However, as Rev. David Curran explains, the closure wasn’t the end.

“When the church closed, it wasn’t the plan to abandon Wexford. Instead, we envisioned a fresh start, with a new vision and purpose for the same site,” said Rev. Curran. “We are planting a new church with a completely different personality, and that’s what we will be celebrating on Wednesday evening.”

The revitalization project is overseen by the Presbyterian Church in Ireland’s (PCI) Council for Mission in Ireland. Rev. Curran was appointed to lead the redevelopment in September 2024. PCI has a long tradition of church planting, particularly in areas lacking a Presbyterian presence.

“Our vision is simple: to be a Christ-centred, Bible-based, worshipping community that serves the people of Wexford town,” Curran explained. The church building, which has undergone extensive refurbishments, now features a newly designed main room, kitchen, and updated facilities, creating a more welcoming space for the community.

After completing the renovations, the church resumed Sunday services last October, and this Wednesday will mark the formal rededication of the building. The service is open to all, with an offering for the local charity, Down Syndrome Wexford.

The event is organized by the Council for Mission in Ireland’s Wexford Presbyterian Development Panel, with invited guests from local churches, the Presbyterian community, and the wider town.
