Government launches construction strategy
The Taoiseach and Tánaiste have unveiled plans for a major stimulus of the construction sector which they say can create 60-thousand new jobs. County Wexford was one of the areas which relied heavily on the industry for employment during the boom resulting in thousands losing their jobs during the recession. The Construction 2020 strategy is aimed at tripling housing builds within six years - and instigating a recovery in a sector still under-performing after the economic crash. Enda Kenny says the strategy won't fuel a new housing bubble - and includes measures to make it easier for first-time buyers to get mortgages for newly-built homes. The Taoiseach says the Government wants to nurture 'sustainable' growth in the sector.
