Housing appeal
A leading charity has made an urgent appeal for the social housing strategy to be altered. The current plan is for the government to meet 70% of social housing needs through supports in the private rental sector. And only 30% will be met through the construction or acquisition of new social houses. Mary Dempsey is the South East representative on the National Social Justice and Visitation Committee. She says that a reliance on the private rental market is having a devastating impact on families and there is a need for increased social housing provision.
