Housing, Roads and Major Projects Top Wexford County Council’s Priorities for 2027

Housing delivery, road infrastructure and the future development of County Wexford are among the key priorities as Wexford County Council prepares its budget for 2027.

Speaking on Morning Mix, Chief Executive Eddie Taaffe said the Council was delivering around 30% more social housing than its targets, with a pipeline of approximately 500 affordable homes planned across Wexford, Gorey and Enniscorthy.

He also confirmed that 170 priority vacant properties had been identified under the Council’s derelict sites programme, with compulsory purchase orders used where owners are unwilling to bring properties back into use.

Other major projects discussed included the proposed Rosslare-to-Oilgate motorway, the South East Technological University and ETB campus, and Trinity Wharf in Wexford town. A preferred development partner for Trinity Wharf is hoped to be identified by the end of the first quarter of 2027.

Interim flood protection measures are also progressing in Enniscorthy, with temporary flood barriers expected to arrive in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, the permanent flood relief scheme remains several years away, with the first phase expected to enter the planning consent process early next year.

Mr Taaffe also highlighted investment in town centre regeneration, including €9 million secured for Enniscorthy, alongside ongoing work to address flooding and environmental concerns at Lady’s Island Lake.

The Council is now working with councillors and its finance department to finalise its operational and capital budgets for 2027.
