The language act is seen as a major stumbling block in efforts to reach a deal on power-sharing at Stormont. The DUP is at odds with Sinn Féin and the SDLP who want legislation to acknowledge the cultural importance of Irish in the six counties. Speaking as part of his US St Patrick's Day visit, Leo Varadkar agreed with them.
