Irish Water has a job of work to do in County Wexford where four areas have raw sewage discharged without treatment. Three are in the south west of the county at Duncannon, Arthurstown and Ballyhack while the other area is Kilmore Quay on the south coast. On top of that Irish Water has to deal with three other areas where treatment plants do not meet EU standards. They are at Courtown, Gorey, Enniscorthy and Castlebridge. Irish Water published it's 25 year investment plan this morning and says bringing waste treatment plants up to EU standards will take a quarter of a century. The report says it will need 25 years to reduce leakage to acceptable levels - and at least 10 years to eliminate lead piping from public mains.
