Kilkenny gynaecologist facing allegations of poor professional performance
A Consultant gynaecologist is facing allegations of poor professional performance, in relation to the treatment of four women at a Kilkenny Hospital. Dr Peter Van Geene performed hysterectomies on the four patients at Aut Even private clinic between 2009 and 2011. The patients are alleged to have suffered serious complications after the operations, in many cases requiring further treatment. In the case of one patient, it's alleged that Dr Van Geene carried out the hysterectomy without establishing whether that type of surgery was clinically justified. One patient, Helen Cruise, who's waived her right to anonymity, is due to give evidence at the Medical Council Inquiry today.
