Kilmuckridge Has Wexford’s Worst Access To Public Transport, CSO Figures Show

Kilmuckridge has the longest median distance to the nearest public transport service of any local electoral area in County Wexford, according to new figures from the Central Statistics Office.

The data shows residential properties in Kilmuckridge are a median distance of 2.4 kilometres from the nearest transport service.

That compares with just 400 metres in Wexford town, 700 metres in Enniscorthy, one kilometre in Rosslare and New Ross, and 1.1 kilometres in Gorey.

The figures form part of a CSO analysis of the distance between residential dwellings and public transport services across Ireland in 2026.

Nationally, eight in ten people live within two kilometres of a bus stop, while almost 70 per cent live within that distance of a high-frequency bus route.

However, the figures highlight differences in access to public transport between individual communities, even within the same county.

Dr Adrian Kavanagh, a geography lecturer at Maynooth University, says the data is striking when examined at local level.

The findings provide an insight into how close people live to public transport, although distance alone does not indicate how frequent or accessible individual services are.
