A new pageant in Blackwater, written and directed by Senan Lillis, is set to bring the life and legacy of Wexford master craftsman James Shipley to the stage.
The Life and Times of James Shipley (1850–1926) explores the life and work of the renowned craftsman, as well as the history and heritage of the local area.
Shipley specialised in ecclesiastical and domestic decorative work, with his artistic legacy still visible in his home church, St Brigid’s Church in Blackwater.
The production also looks at the Ireland in which Shipley lived, including the significant and often turbulent changes taking place during his lifetime.
The pageant combines drama, narration, monologues, music, song, cinematography and poetry to tell his story.
It is being presented by The Wayside Players in association with Scoil Naomh Bríde.
The Life and Times of James Shipley takes place at St Brigid’s Church in Blackwater this Thursday and Friday, October 29th and 30th, at 7pm.
