Many people in Wexford could be leaving retirement planning until it's too late, according to new research highlighting concerns about financial preparedness in later life.
A recent survey has found that one in seven people only begin thinking seriously about retirement within six months of finishing work, leaving little time to put plans in place or make informed financial decisions.
Experts say preparing well in advance of retirement can help people feel more financially secure while also allowing them to consider important lifestyle changes, including how they want to spend their time once they leave the workforce.
The findings have prompted renewed calls for people to start planning earlier, regardless of their age or stage of career.
Speaking to South East Radio, Paul Kenny, Programme Leader with the Retirement Planning Council of Ireland, encouraged people not to put off thinking about life after work.
The Retirement Planning Council says retirement planning is about far more than finances alone, with health, wellbeing, social connections and purpose all playing an important role in ensuring a positive transition into retirement.
