"March Of The Snails" - Council Chairwoman Hits Out At Slow Progress

Wexford County Council's chairwoman says she wants to battle what she calls the "March of the Snails".

Councillor Lisa McDonald says it's frustrating for residents in the county to see the slow pace attached to major infrastructure projects.

It follows the delay to a coastal erosion project in Rosslare Strand which has now been pushed into the new year.

Councillor McDonald says some heads need to be knocked together to speed everything up:

"I call it the March of the Snails because the wheels of power turn so slowly at Government level and at County Council level.

"The erosion work, I was hoping that would start in November, it's now looking like January or February.

"Everything seems to always get constantly pushed back but we have to push on and deliver and when it is delivered, that's a good day."

Councillor Lisa McDonald says despite this, some plans are being implemented to make sure the Rosslare Strand area is living up to it's full potential.

She says the people will be listened to so that their concerns are addressed as quickly as possible.

Councillor McDonald says the area won't be forgotten about any more:

"The Rural Regeneration application with Wexford County Council, the consultant there is currently out to tender so that's moving along very rapidly I hope.

"The car park is going for planning permission and we're hopefully be moving the bins up to the new car park which will give space for amenities in the old one."

That report was funded by the Local Democracy Reporting Scheme.
