Mother of six highlights the benefits of home education ahead of Gorey event

A Wexford mother who home educated all six of her children is encouraging parents to find out more about the benefits of home education.

Monica O’Connor, who is originally from Wexford and now lives in Carlow, has spoken about her own experience ahead of a family-friendly information day taking place in Gorey this weekend.

The event will give parents considering home education an opportunity to hear directly from families who have chosen to educate their children at home.

Different approaches will be discussed, including interest-led learning, following a curriculum and using online classes. There will also be an opportunity to hear from adults who were themselves educated at home and have since gone on to further education and employment.

Speaking on Morning Mix on South East Radio, Monica shared her experience of home educating her six children and the support she received from those around her.She said her family did not judge her decision to educate her children at home and that her experience has helped shape her views on the benefits of home education.

The information day takes place this Saturday, August 29th, from 9.30am until 4pm at the Ashdown Park Hotel in Gorey. Parents will be able to ask questions of other home-educating families and hear about the different experiences of children of varying ages.

Places for the event are limited and parents interested in attending are asked to book in advance with Monica. 086 836 6569
