New Health and Wellbeing Resource Launched in Wexford to Make Healthy Living Easier for Everyone

A new health and wellbeing manual and online resource aimed at making health information clearer and more accessible has been officially launched in County Wexford.

The Healthy Living for Everyday Life initiative was developed by the HSE's Health Promotion and Improvement team in partnership with a number of community organisations.

The launch, held at Wexford Primary Care Centre, marks the next stage of a project that began as a series of health literacy talks in libraries across the county last year.

Between September and December 2025, talks were delivered in Bunclody, Enniscorthy, Gorey, New Ross and Wexford Town as part of a pilot programme designed to help people take greater control of their health and wellbeing.

The initiative received funding through the Adult Literacy for Life Collaboration and Innovation Fund.

Community partners involved in the project include Wexford Library Service, Sports Active Wexford, the Irish Heart Foundation, Mental Health Ireland, Waterford and Wexford Education and Training Board, and Adult Literacy for Life.

Making Health Information Easier to Understand

A key focus of the programme is improving health literacy — helping people find, understand and use information to make informed decisions about their health.

Those delivering the original talks received specialist training in adult literacy awareness and literacy-sensitive health promotion.

This was designed to ensure that information was presented in a clear, inclusive and accessible way, particularly for people who may find complex medical or health information difficult to navigate.

The newly launched manual and online resources cover a wide range of everyday health topics, including:

  • Healthy eating and nutrition

  • Physical activity and exercise

  • Mental health and wellbeing

  • Alcohol awareness

  • Quitting smoking and vaping

  • Reducing cancer risk

The materials are intended not only for members of the public but also for other organisations and communities interested in delivering similar health promotion initiatives.

A Collaborative Approach to Better Health

The project was led by HSE Health Promotion and Improvement Officer Elaine Banville, supported by a steering group involving Wexford Library Service, Waterford and Wexford Education and Training Board and Adult Literacy for Life.

Speaking about the initiative, the project team highlighted the benefits of organisations working together to make health information more accessible.

They said the new manual captures the learning from the original programme and offers other organisations an opportunity to adapt the approach to their own communities.

The HSE hopes the resource will encourage more people to engage with health information, develop healthier habits and make informed decisions about their wellbeing.

Where to Access the Resource
