The National Opera House and Wexford Festival Opera have announced a major investment in a new state-of-the-art stage lighting system for the O’Reilly Theatre.
The new equipment, featuring professional moving-light technology from Robe Lighting, will make its debut at the 75th Wexford Festival Opera, which runs from October 15th to 31st.
Technical Director Colin Murphy says the investment brings the National Opera House on par with other European opera houses in terms of stage lighting technology.
The new system offers improved colour consistency, greater light output and increased flexibility for production teams, enhancing the staging of opera, theatre and other live performances.
Energy efficiency and sustainability were also key considerations, with the new fixtures selected for their compact design, low weight and quiet operation — essential in a venue where acoustics are so important.
The investment marks another step in the continued development of the National Opera House, ensuring it can meet the demands of productions into the future while helping to reduce long-term operating costs.
The new lighting system will be seen in action for the first time when this year’s festival opens on October 15th, marking a significant milestone in the 75th anniversary celebrations of Wexford Festival Opera.
