New Ross Boat Club is calling on Wexford County Council, Government departments and other relevant agencies to work together to repair its storm-damaged pontoon.
The pontoon suffered serious damage during last week's severe storms, with the club now beginning the process of assessing the extent of the damage and the cost of repairs.
A marine engineer carried out an initial visual inspection at low tide on Sunday, with a further underwater assessment involving divers and specialist photography and video equipment due to take place.
Speaking to South East Radio News, the club's PRO Dave Roche says the findings will help determine the work required and the funding needed to get the pontoon operational again.
He says the facility is much more than a recreational asset, describing it as a vital part of New Ross's emergency response infrastructure.
The club's facilities are used by River Search and Rescue, as well as first responders including Gardaí and ambulance personnel during incidents on the River Barrow.
Mr Roche says the Coast Guard helicopter has also landed beside the club's facilities to assist in recovering people following river incidents.
He says the damage represents an emergency for New Ross and the surrounding district, given the pontoon's role in supporting rescue and recovery operations.
The club has already received support from local representatives, including TD Verona Murphy and local councillors, who visited the site on Sunday to discuss the next steps.
Discussions are now taking place around possible funding options, including the Community Sport Facilities Fund, Sports Capital funding and potential European grants.
In the meantime, neighbouring rowing clubs in Waterford, Carlow and Red Iron are helping New Ross Boat Club's junior members get back out on the water.
The club is also reminding vessels travelling along the River Barrow to proceed carefully in the area to avoid causing further damage.
New Ross Boat Club, which is the second oldest boat club in Ireland, says it is determined to get the facility back up and running for both its members and the wider community.
