New ross councillor accuses taoiseach of blackmail over eirgird project
Fianna Fáil Councillor in New Ross Michael Sheehan has accused the Taoiseach of blackmailing the people of County Wexford by linking the Eirgrid pylon project with emigration. Councillor Sheehan made the comments as today marks the deadline for public submissions on proposals to erect the new high voltage power line linking Leinster to Munster through Great Island. He's called on people to continue to make submissions to Eirgird even after the 5pm deadline. Councillor Sheehan told South East RadioNews that Enda Kenny yesterday said: "People want jobs in the region and if they want jobs they have to have the infrastructure and that's why we need the pylons so if we don't have pylons we're going to have increased emigration."
