New Ross Wins Gold Medal in National TidyTowns Competition

New Ross has been awarded a Gold Medal in the 2026 SuperValu TidyTowns competition, marking a major milestone for the town.

The achievement comes just four years after New Ross had no medal ranking in the national competition.

The New Ross Municipal District has praised the efforts of the local TidyTowns committee, volunteers, residents, community groups, schools, businesses and council staff in securing the award.

Their work has included improving public spaces and streetscapes, supporting biodiversity initiatives and enhancing the overall appearance of the town.

District Manager Alan Fitzhenry says progressing from no medal position to Gold in four years demonstrates what can be achieved through community cooperation and a shared vision.

Cathaoirleach of New Ross Municipal District, Councillor John Fleming, has also congratulated everyone involved, saying the success is something the whole community can be proud of.

Chairperson of New Ross TidyTowns, David Lee, says the award reflects the collective pride and commitment of those who have worked to make the town a welcoming place to live, work and visit.

He has thanked local volunteers, residents' associations, traders, clubs and schools, along with Wexford County Council and New Ross Municipal District staff, for their continued support.

The Municipal District plans to hold an event in the coming weeks to celebrate the Gold Medal achievement and recognise those who contributed to the success.
