Number of children killed on irish roads tripled last year

It has emerged that the number of children killed on our roads tripled last year, with 14 deaths around the country. That compares with five children killed in road accidents in 2013. The Road Safety Authority (RSA) has revealed that four out of five child seats are not fitted properly, and has launched a new campaign to better restrain children in cars. The Chair of the RSA, Liz O'Donnell, says parents need to have child restraints checked and fitted properly. "I think parents need to be aware of that and to go and have their child seats safely recognised and properly installed" she said. "I think a lot of parents do it themselves but that's not good enough - because there's no point putting your child into a device which is not roadworthy and will not protect your child adequately in the case of a crash" she added.
