Over €34 Million Announced for Wexford Roads

Wexford is set to benefit from a major roads funding programme in 2026, with the Department of Transport confirming more than €34.2 million in exchequer funding for national, regional, and local roads across the county.

The announcement, made today by Wexford TD and Minister James Browne alongside Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien, breaks down as follows: €23,317,100 for regional and local roads, €10,924,987 for national roads, €8,106,000 for capital investment, €2,250,000 for the construction of new roads, and €568,987 for protection and renewal under current maintenance programmes. Notably, the funding includes the N11/N25 Oilgate to Rosslare route, a project long advocated for by Minister Browne.

Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) will oversee the allocation of the funding, which will support protection and renewal of the national road network, road safety improvements, bridge and pavement upgrades, and climate-resilience measures. The funding will also advance new national road projects identified in the National Development Plan and the Sectoral Investment Plan for Transport.

Minister James Browne welcomed the announcement, highlighting the importance of investment in Wexford’s road network. “Investment in our roads has been a key piece of engagement between myself and the Minister for Transport over the last number of months,” he said. “I am ensuring that Wexford is not left behind in the advancement of our projects. The protection and renewal of our existing national, regional and local road network is essential to every single village and town.

“I have also been committed to assisting the local authority with financial support in the aftermath of storms in particular. The allocation being announced today for our county will enable serious progress. Greater connectivity supports our economic development, and delivering safer roads is essential, alongside reducing congestion in towns and communities across the county.”

Minister Browne also emphasised the significance of the N11/N25 Oilgate to Rosslare funding: “I particularly welcome the commitment of funding for this national route, a project I have raised and worked to ensure was dealt with, as it is badly needed.”

The Department of Transport said the 2026 funding will ensure that Wexford’s road network remains safe, resilient, and capable of meeting the county’s transport needs, while supporting local economic growth and connectivity.
