Pac member calls for transcripts of garda whistleblower allegations
A member of the Dáil Public Accounts Committee has called for allegations made by a garda whistleblower to be released. Sinn Fein's Mary Lou McDonald says there is no reason not to publish a transcript of its meeting with whistleblower Sergeant Maurice McCabe. She says both Sergeant McCabe and the committee followed strict legal advice in the questions and answers put yesterday. She says there would be no legal consequences to publishing a full record of the hearing. "Given that there is nothing in the transcripts - I believe - to cause legal difficulties or anything untoward, that thee is no reason why the public should not hear, or should not get sight of, the same evidence that their public representatives saw" she said. "I think that's a very straightforward proposition...and I really hope that they will take that position on it" she added.
