Presentation Secondary School Wexford delays reopening

The reopening of Presentation Secondary School in Wexford has been delayed due to an engineering issue associated with works currently being carried out on the school premises.

The works were approved by the Department of Education at the end of June, but several general and specialist classrooms in the main building have been affected.

The school says the rooms “cannot for health & safety reasons be currently utilised for teaching & learning purposes.”

In a statement to South East Radio News, the school says the issues that have arisen are “entirely beyond the school's control”, with contractors working diligently to ensure the school can reopen as soon as it is safe and practical to do so.

School staff are also working alongside the contractors, with the school aiming to be fully functional by the end of this week.

The school says the decision to delay reopening was made in the best interests of the “health, safety, and wellbeing of all members of our school community.”

First-year students will still attend induction and classes as originally scheduled on Thursday and Friday, September 3rd and 4th, while all other year groups will return from Monday, September 7th.

The school says any tuition days lost due to the unforeseen circumstances will be recouped using discretionary days already scheduled in the 2026/27 school calendar.

A revised school calendar will be issued to parents and guardians once it has been finalised.

The school has thanked families for their patience and understanding and says it looks forward to welcoming students back “at the earliest opportunity.”
