President Catherine Connolly Opens "Making the Invisible, Visible" Exhibition in Wexford

President Catherine Connolly will officially open the "Making the Invisible, Visible" exhibition in Wexford town. The exhibition, running at the Green Acres Art Gallery until March 29th, showcases the remarkable artwork of brain injury survivors, many of whom are members of the Wexford branch of Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Ireland.

The exhibition features a wide range of visual and sculptural works, including music, poetry, and tactile arts, offering visitors a multisensory experience. The aim is to give voice to survivors, raise awareness of the challenges they face, and advocate for change.

For Irene Delaney, one of the artists involved, the exhibition has been a way to express the often unseen impacts of brain injury. "Brain injury isn’t just visual or physical," she explained. "It affects how you hear, smell, touch, and feel the world. Using multiple mediums helped me show others what living in my body and mind is really like."

ABI Ireland’s CEO, Karen Foley, highlighted the transformative role of creative arts in recovery. “At ABI Ireland, we know recovery isn’t linear. It’s about rediscovering your identity, voice, confidence, and purpose. This project shows the powerful effect creative expression can have in that journey."

The exhibition aims to challenge conventional narratives around brain injury, expanding how art can communicate complex human experiences. The public is invited to attend and engage with the deeply personal artistic interpretations of the survivors' lived experiences.

With over 19,000 brain injuries occurring in Ireland each year, ABI Ireland continues to support individuals and families affected by brain injury, offering essential services for rehabilitation, adaptation, and improved quality of life.
