Former minister, journalist and bestselling author Shane Ross joined us to discuss his new book, RTÉ Saints, Scholars and Scandals, a deep dive into the history, controversies and scandals surrounding Ireland’s national broadcaster.
The book traces RTÉ’s story from its launch in 1961 to the major controversies of recent years, including the 2023 payments scandal involving Ryan Tubridy. Ross argues the broadcaster’s recent troubles are part of a much longer pattern involving alleged waste, poor management and financial controversy.
Described as colourful, critical and often humorous, the book also asks tough questions about the future of public service broadcasting in Ireland and whether public trust in RTÉ can be rebuilt.
